Yes! we actively solicit submissions of stories and photos.So...no excuses. Share your private Idaho with the rest of us. We are always on the lookout for informative, entertaining writing and great photography about Idaho topics. Tell us about your background, your family, your experiences. Sometimes we'll consider a familiar topic if it is presented from a unique slant, but mostly we're looking for stories that haven't been published elsewhere, and great stories just waiting to be told. We consider submissions on all topics except religion and politics.

Dig into your memories, bring out your boxes of old photos, brush up on the stories you heard yesterday and the ones you heard as a child. Columns should be from 100 to 1,000 words, feature articles from 1-3,000 words. (We don’t pay by the word, so be concise.) We also consider humorous pieces, but it must be from Idaho, or about Idahoans, and it must be a true story. We do NOT accept jokes. “One Spud Short” submissions must be true, and you must name names. On rare occasions we may allow a name to be withheld, but the story must be submitted with the names in order to be considered.

Fictional works may be submitted to our annual fiction contest deadlining on Jan. 31. Be sure all fictional works are clearly marked as fiction, and they should not have been previously published.

If you have a story idea, pitch it to us. We accept proposals and unsolicited manuscripts. Accepting a manuscript does not guarantee publication. If you want materials returned, include a self-addressed return envelope with postage. We prefer electronic submissions, and prefer that they be sent in Microsoft Word, if possible. Hard copies must be typed. Do not send an original or sole copy. We are not responsible for unsolicited manuscripts or photos.

IDAHO magazine accepts photographs for consideration as covers as well as photos accompanying pieces submitted for publication. All photos should include a description of the subject matter (names, dates, locations, activities) for captions, and they should have the name of the photographer(s) attached to each photo. If the photo is being loaned by an organization or individual, please list the names so proper credit can be given. Either print or digital copies are acceptable. Please send digital photos as JPEG or TIFF files. Digital photos sent on disks or by e-mail should be a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Prints should be 4x6.  Photos not for use on a cover or with a story may be used on our “Idaho Family Album” photo page, but we cannot pay for their use. IDAHO magazine buys one-time rights to articles, which may include both print and electronic versions. This does not require the written exchange or copyright from freelancers to the magazine. When we are asked for permission to reprint articles, the requests will be forwarded to the author. We reserve the right to edit and rewrite to comply with our style or space requirements.
